The short version

Who we are

Wee Outings (weeoutings.com) lists things to do with children in Northern Ireland. We're the “controller” of the information described here under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

What we use, and why

The area you choose

To show what's on near you, you can share your location, enter a postcode or pick a town.

Saved events

When you tap the heart, the event is added to a list kept in a cookie on your device. We can't see it.

Counting visits

We use Umami to count visits without cookies. It records which pages are viewed, the site that sent you, your browser, device type and country, and taps on things like Book, Call, Share and Directions, with the event they were for. It doesn't store your IP address or anything that identifies you, and can't follow you to other sites. We use it to see what's useful and fix what isn't (our “legitimate interests”).

We also count taps on Book, Call, Email and Website ourselves, with just the event and the time, so we can tell venues how many families we send them. Nothing about you is recorded.

Running the website

Like every website, our hosting provider receives your IP address and browser details when you load a page, to deliver it and protect the site from abuse. These logs are kept briefly and not used to identify you.

If you email us

We use your email and message to reply, and keep them only as long as we need to.

Our “Request a change” form

If you ask us to correct or remove a listing, or tell us about something we're missing, we keep your email, your name (if you give it), your message and which event it's about. We use them to deal with your request and reply (our “legitimate interests”). They're never shown on the site. We keep them for up to 12 months unless it's part of an ongoing conversation. The form has the same spam protection as the add-an-event form: Cloudflare Turnstile and a scrambled version of your network address.

Organisers and venues

If you add an event, we keep your name, email, phone number (if you give it) and organisation, and the event you send us. We use them to check and publish your event, contact you about it, and keep the listing accurate (our “legitimate interests”, and yours in being listed). Your own contact details are never shown on the site; the event details, including any booking phone, email or link you give, are.

To stop spam, the form uses Cloudflare Turnstile (a check that you're not a robot), and we keep a scrambled version of your network address that can't be turned back into it. While you fill the form in, a draft is kept in your browser so a refresh doesn't lose it; it's cleared when you send it.

Cookies

We only use cookies that make features you've asked for work, so they don't need your consent. They stay on your device. You can delete them in your browser settings at any time; the site will just forget your area and saved events.

How we use AI

We use AI (Claude, made by Anthropic) to read public event listings from venues, councils and tourism sites, and write a short summary of each in our own words, with details like ages, prices and dates. AI can make mistakes, so check details with the organiser before you go.

When you add an event, the description you write is sent to Anthropic so the AI can write its summary and sort it into the right category. Your name and contact details aren't sent. Anthropic processes it on our behalf, doesn't use it to train its models, and deletes it after a short period. A person checks every event before it's published, and we don't use AI to make decisions about you.

Event listings and organisers

Events come from organisers' and venues' public listings. Where a listing gives a phone number or email for booking, we show it so you can book. If you're an organiser and something is wrong, or you'd like a listing changed or removed, email weeoutings@gmail.com.

Other services we use

Some of these companies are based in the US. Where your information leaves the UK, it's protected by UK adequacy rules or the UK's standard data transfer agreements.

When you tap through to a venue, booking site, Google Maps, Apple Maps or Google Calendar, their own privacy policies apply.

Children

Wee Outings is for parents, carers and anyone planning days out with children. It isn't designed for children to use on their own, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.

How long we keep things

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or stop using it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Email weeoutings@gmail.com and we'll reply within a month.

Because we keep so little, often we'll hold nothing that identifies you: your area and saved events live in your browser, and you can clear them yourself.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113).

Keeping it safe

The site only works over a secure connection (HTTPS), and access to our systems is limited to the people who run it.

Changes

We'll update this page when we add features or change how we use information, and change the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll say so on the site.
